Cancellations must be made seven days in advance in order to receive a full refund. Refunds are not given for classes canceled less than seven days ahead; however, you can always send a friend in your place.

Honey Harvesting

Interested in learning how honey gets from hive to jar? In this hands-on class, participants will uncap frames of honeycomb and hand spin them in an extractor to expel the honey. The instructor will explain how she removes the frames of honeycomb from her hives. You’ll learn tips and tricks for honey harvesting. Taste two different backyard honeys and go home with a small sample of this delicious honey you help harvest. This class is aimed at beekeepers, but you don’t have to keep bees to take this class. It’s also for the honey-lover or the bee-curious!
There is an uneven supply of food in August & September, and your bees can eat some of their honey during times of food shortage in the environment. This class is timed so you wait till the end of September to harvest extra honey in the hive as part of shrinking down the hive for winter.
Registrants will receive two bonuses:
- Jennifer’s self study honey harvesting class ($35 value) with video and instructions of how to get honey off the hive and how to extract.
- A small jar of the honey we harvest from Jennifer’s Berkeley hive.
Instructor: Jennifer Radtke has been keeping bees in her backyard for 18+ years, and has developed the beekeeping education program at the BioFuel Oasis. She mentors many backyard beekeepers through her business Learn from the Bees.
