Description

Let’s gather together and learn the basics of sewing, all the things you’ve somehow not gotten around to practicing or maybe never even learned. Starting with kinds of needles and thread and scissors…we’ll learn how to do various kinds of stitches for various needs: the back stitch, the running stitch, the hemstitch. We’ll practice sewing a seam and I’ll show you how to create a french bound seam.  We’ll look at different kinds of fasteners and how to re-attach a button, maybe even reinforce a
button hole.  You’ll create a little collection of samples that you can take home and reference whenever needed. And we’ll talk about creating a sewing kit to have on hand for repairs.

We will provide a variety of fabrics and threads to use for your work during the hands-on portion of the workshop. You are welcome to bring a beloved item of clothing that needs to be mended to lengthen its life. If you have a sewing kit, do bring it: scissors, needles, pins, cloth scraps welcome as well.

If you came to the earlier class, do come again! There is always more to learn.
